Description of Major
The RN to BSN program is a fully web-based, part-time program designed for the licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who is seeking career mobility through advanced education. The undergraduate program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Students are strongly encouraged to obtain their Associate in Arts degree from a Florida public institution prior to applying to the program.
The College of Nursing has designed the curriculum to prepare professional leaders for practice in diverse settings. Preparation includes viewing the recipients of nursing care within the context of the population group to which they belong, and providing preventive, restorative, and rehabilitative care in a wide variety of settings. Designed to capitalize on the RN’s prior learning and experience, the RN to BSN Program offers the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree in a few as four semesters or as many as seven semesters of part-time study.
Prerequisite Coursework:
The following courses or their equivalent must be completed prior to entry into the nursing major. 15 hours of these should be used to satisfy the Liberal Studies requirement (6 hours Natural Sciences, 6 hours Social Sciences, 3 hours for the second mathematics course). The RN to BSN program is designed for the part-time working professional and can be completed in as few as four consecutive semesters (about 15 months, based on fall semester matriculation) or as many as seven consecutive semesters (about 27 months). Students are accepted into this program for the Spring Semester only (application deadline-October 1). In addition to applying to the University and providing official transcripts, a separate RN to BSN Program Application to the College of Nursing is required. In addition, students applying for admission must have a minimum of 60 hours of transferable credit; an AA degree from a Florida public institution is strongly recommended. Students must also verify satisfactory completion of the Florida CLAS or approved equivalency. State policy requires that all students admitted to a state university present evidence of either two consecutive years of the same foreign language in high school or 8 hours of the same foreign language in college. For complete details on FSU’s RN to BSN Program admission, contact the program coordinator listed above.
